About Harlem, GA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Harlem is a small city found in Columbia County, Georgia, and as of 2010 the population was approaching 2,700 residents. This community is found in the southern portion of the county in the Central Savannah River Area, and it is situated 16 miles from Wrens and only about 21 miles from the South Carolina border. It was founded in 1870, and the city was named when a traveler visiting from New York claimed it resembled Harlem, NY. Harlem’s major claim to fame is being the birthplace of famous comedian Oliver Hardy, and each October, the Harlem Oliver Hardy Festival takes place in his honor.

Despite being a small city, there are a few notable attractions located here. Many visitors enjoy checking out the Laurel and Hardy Museum of Harlem, which celebrates the careers and lives of comedy legends Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel. Harlem City Park is found in this community and offers outdoor recreational space, and the It’s a Man’s Place Thrift Store is a popular shopping destination.

Whether you are visiting Harlem or live here, there are several things that you should know about the climate. Many residents especially enjoy being in the area during the winter, as temperatures tend to be mild and the season is short. High temperatures reach the upper-50s or lower-60s during the winter, and snowfall is rare. However, since overnight lows fall to freezing level, and a home heating system can ensure that residents stay comfortable regardless of how far temperatures drop.

Summers in Harlem can be difficult to get through, especially for people with chronic illnesses and the elderly, as temperatures are extremely hot. In addition to thermostat readings well into the 90s, humidity levels are high, so it will feel even warmer. To stay safe, it is crucial that all Harlem residents have access to a home air conditioning unit, and it is recommended that homeowners use cooler times throughout the year to ensure that their systems are working properly.
